New Community Centre – Pottery Road
Hoo St Werburgh and Chattenden Parish Council is progressing one of its most significant community projects – the development of a new purpose-built Community Centre at Pottery Road, replacing the existing Hoo Village Hall.
The project has been developed in response to the continued growth of Hoo and Chattenden and the need for modern, flexible and accessible community facilities that can serve residents for many years to come.
A New Community Facility for Hoo and Chattenden
The new Community Centre is being designed as an inclusive and accessible community hub, providing improved facilities for local residents, organisations, clubs and community groups.
The aim is to create a modern building capable of supporting a wide variety of activities, including community meetings, clubs and groups, events, activities for young people, wellbeing initiatives and other community services.
The development will also provide improvements to the wider site, including parking, access and landscaping, helping to create a facility that integrates with the surrounding Pottery Road Recreation Ground.
Planning Permission
A major milestone was reached when planning permission was granted for the new Community Centre.
Following the granting of permission, the Parish Council and its professional team have continued to work through the detailed design and the requirements and conditions associated with the planning approval in preparation for the next stage of the project.
Funding the Community Centre
A significant proportion of the project is being funded through Section 106 developer contributions secured for community infrastructure as a result of development within the area.
The Parish Council has been working closely with Medway Council and its professional advisers to progress the necessary funding and legal arrangements. This represents a substantial investment in community infrastructure for Hoo and Chattenden and ensures that contributions arising from local development are being reinvested for the benefit of the community.
Moving Towards Construction
With planning permission secured, work is continuing behind the scenes on the detailed design, planning conditions, legal arrangements and preparation for delivery of the project.
The Parish Council intends to progress the development through a Design and Build approach, with the professional team supporting the Council through the next stages towards construction.
This is a major project and there are a number of technical, financial and legal stages that must be completed before construction can commence. The Parish Council is committed to ensuring these are properly managed and that the project delivers a high-quality and sustainable facility representing good value for the community.
